Left Barcelona at 10 pm for a 7 hour flight to Dubai, 2 hour layover and after a further 7 hour flight arrived in Hong Kong about 9.30 pm. Straight to hotel and to bed, Regal Kowloon Hotel, 14th floor. HK is a city of about 7 million and most are housed in very tall dense apartment buildings, the whole city is covered with these buildings. All the tourist type sites are always crowded and difficult to see, such as the tram to the top of Victoria Peak. The weather was almost tropical after Europe and didn\’t need to wear jackets etc. We found that HK isn\’t the bargain city we remembered and I guess that the economic development of China has raised the standards quite significantly, as per the comment that China has more Billionaires than the USA. But there are bargains still out there its just a matter of looking.

Note the use of bamboo scaffolding all the way to the top. I doubt if an Australian rigger would even set foot on the site.One of the numerous “star” ferries sailing around Hong Kong harbour. it costs about 3$HK to cross the harbour and takes about 5 minutes.This is a typical menu in many cafes etc. in Kowloon. Its very hard to find many vegetarian dishes and its good to see the Chinese don’t waste much of any animal when it comes to eating them.This is a shot taken from near the Kowloon ferry terminal looking across the harbour at Hong Kong island around 9 pm.Just part of the cemetery on Hong Kong Island. It covered a large part of this hill and down the other side.This is part of a large communal Bar-B-Q area at Repulse Bay on Hong Kong Island. There were several hundred people using scores of built in Barbeques.This is part of the beach at Stanley near the market. Seemed very quiet with very few people on the beach despite it being quite warm.Part of the crowd and part of the Stanley market. Lots of tourists and lots of goods to look through. There was some really good stuff, and there was also some rubbish.
That was the end of our trip. We are back at home and were almost flattened by the 38 degrees and high humidity but we will get used to it. Always nice to get home again and catch up with family and friends. Hong Kong looks very colourful and busy. You must have done a lot of walking. It’s good you are back home safely. We enjoyed staying at your house and look after the cats. It was a great house sitting. Also enjoyed following you on this blog.
